Sometimes it’s easy to lose sight of what it really means to love yourself. Especially, if your in a situation where you’re constantly giving to another person. Whether it is because you are a parent, a wife, a caregiver or what have you; it may be difficult to find time to really love yourself the way that you should.
What does it really mean to love yourself? Is it about making yourself a cup of hot chocolate when you’re cold? Is it about buying yourself a new dress when you feel like it?
To truly be in love with thyself goes beyond caring for your basic needs. It means to empathize completely; to understand and identify with yourself; to accept yourself as you are and to come to terms with those aspects of yourself that you cannot change - recognizing your self worth and those things that make you uniquely fabulous.
It’s ok accept that nose that you think may be too big for your face. Embrace that! You were born with it and therefore cannot change it. Know that with all your imperfections, those are the same things that makes you fly, fierce and fabulous.
Forgive yourself for things you’ve done in the past by letting go of yesterday and look towards tomorrow. It's okay to take a moment for yourself. Now, this is an area that most women struggle with. Personally, I find it easier and more natural to make sure everyone else is fed, hydrated and clothed. But when it comes to myself, remembering to eat dinner can sometimes be a chore.
A good way to learn to love yourself, is to court yourself. If you like art, go to a gallery. If you like to cook, find a new recipe and try it out. If you like to write, buy a new journal and pen your thoughts. Whatever it may be do it! Even if you don't have anyone to do it with you, go anyway.
If you find it difficult to begin on this journey of falling in love with yourself, just remember that any good love takes time. Give yourself the time you deserve to establish a love for yourself that will last a lifetime. You deserve to be loved, pampered and nurtured. So, if you only do one thing for yourself today – let it be to make a commitment to fall in love with the wonderfully fabulous YOU!

Kids Say the Darndest Things...
Imagine this scene. My oldest son ( who will be lovingly referred to here as "The Boy" ) and I just finished studying for both his math and spelling tests which are being administered tomorrow. I don't know about you, but I don't remember 2nd grade having a bunch of tests. But, I digress. After receiving a perfect score on my pop quiz, he asks can he have a snack. Dialogue as follows:
Me: Son, why don't you go in the kitchen and get yourself a snack. You can have pudding or yogurt.
The Boy: Well, can I have a granola bar?
Me: That's fine.
*The boy walks to the pantry to find the granola bars*
The Boy: Mommy, you have a lot of great value food in here (read: walmart brand)
Me: Yea, son i do.
The Boy: Well, why? what is great value -- what does that mean?
Me: It means its cheaper
The Boy: What's cheaper mean?
Me: It means it costs less money
The Boy: Oh... well, that makes sense to buy food cheaper. that way when we need a lot of it you won't have to spend a lot of money
Me: Now you got it!
This is what I get for having a child who reads well. If you ask me, the boy just got a lesson in frugalness from his dear old Mama! This lesson I've lovingly entitled "How to recession proof your pantry so that your family eats." LOL! I'm glad he understands the necessity of frugal buying.

About One Fly Mommy

I'm a quarter-century year old wife and mother of 3 kids. I'm a graduate student, book lover, Internet- junkie and Twitterholic! Basically, I'm trying to rediscover my womanhood while still managing to wear all of my required multiple hats.
While being so many things to so many people, mother's have a tough job. Is it possible to be someone's mother and not turn into the frumpy mama you see carting their kids to school in sweatpants and rollers in their hair? Absolutely. I can't lie to you. Sometimes, I am that woman. But more often that not, I want to show the world that I am still smart, funny, witty, sometimes neurotic -- that I like purses and shoes but don't nearly get enough opportunities to wear them.
Mainly, this is my journey that I encourage you to be a part of. I'll share with you motherhood story narrated by yours truly, tips on how to regain and create a sense of style, how to live without wanting to jump off of your garage when times get tough and how to take care of your Mommy body ( which has changed so much now, hasn't it?). Becoming a mom shouldn't mean the end of feminitiy as we know it. Let's try and regain a sense of individuality, while still being a part of your children's reality.
So yea, you wont find links to expensive baby furniture or tips on how to fire your nanny here. They'll be real stories of motherhood (because kids are hilarious) and a few other things in the hopes that they encourage you to dig deep within to find your flyness. Don't worry. It's in there. I promise.
Sounds good right? That's because it is. Duh. If you take nothing away from your experience in this space, leave with my mantra in mind. Every mother deserves to be one fly mommy!!
